Singer, Songwriter, and Actor Joe Jonas Chooses Implantable Contact Lenses to Correct His Vision

In August of 2022, Jonas had EVO Visian ICLTM lenses implanted by his doctor to upgrade his vision and break free from the hassles of contact lenses and eyeglasses.

Acknowledging that life on the road is tough when you rely on glasses and contact lenses, singer Joe Jonas made the decision to correct his vision with implantable contact lenses. He now reports 20/20 vision after having the procedure.

In a recent interview for People magazine, the member of both The Jonas Brothers and DNCE discusses what led him to explore his vision correction options and, ultimately, decide upon implantable lenses.  In particular, he struggled with managing his contact lenses while maintaining a hectic touring schedule. Long flights often would result in dry eye symptoms and accidentally falling asleep in contacts – both of which can pose real eye and vision health risks.

“…you take a red-eye flight, you wake up and either you forgot to take your contacts out or just putting them back in doesn’t feel right,” said Jonas to People magazine. “I think we’ve all had that experience with contacts.”

Why Consider Implantable Contact Lenses?

Implantable lenses such as the EVO Visian ICL are one of the latest in an expanding field of options for people considering vision correction procedures which include laser-based surgeries such as LASIK, SMILE, and PRK. The EVO Visian ICLs work within the eye to correct nearsightedness and astigmatism and are a particularly good option for those patients with very strong prescriptions. Unlike contact lenses, which sit on the surface of the eye, implantable lenses are inserted behind the iris, in front of the lens inside the eye to focus vision. The entire procedure takes approximately 20 minutes. Most people immediately achieve better vision with their results improving as the healing progresses over several days and up to one month after the procedure.

Likely candidates for implantable lens procedures are adults between the ages of 21-45 years of age with a stable vision prescription – meaning it hasn’t changed in over a year – and healthy eyes. Patients who have looked into their vision correction options and have been told they aren’t good candidates for a laser vision correction procedure like LASIK are often good candidates for implantable lenses.

Jonas had the implantable contact lens procedure in New York City and now boasts: “I have bragging rights in our household to have 20/20 vision…I think it is really life-changing and makes things a lot easier.” Now, he serves as a spokesperson for Staar Surgical, makers of the EVO Visian ICL. Jonas was so pleased with his results, he recommended them to his brother Kevin the day after his procedure and EVO is the title sponsor of the Jonas Brothers’ The Tour in North America.

Are Implantable Contact Lenses Right for Me?

Vision-correcting procedures like implantable contact lenses are designed to help those patients wanting to be able to see well without relying on glasses and contact lenses. Importantly, choosing a vision-correcting procedure should be done after a thorough consultation with a highly qualified eye surgeon to determine if you are a good candidate for one or more of the options available today.
